Family & Relationship Therapy

Family & Relationship Therapy is about working with the entire close family unit, and to be effective, it is important that all family members participate in the sessions.

In some instances, other family members (grandparents for example) may be in a position to make positive contributions to the discussion – particularly if they are part of the issues under discussion.

The challenge can be in getting family members to participate – particularly if there is an initial reluctance to do so, and often, family therapy may start with individual consultations, where the objective is to gain confidence and to establish a positive attitude towards participation as a family group.

The goal should be to avoid confrontational situations, and to work within an environment where everyone believes their contribitions to be helpful and positive.
